Description:
One of London's most famous attractions, the Tower has a wealth of history to explore, and of course houses the crown jewels. Children will also enjoy seeing the ravens and the yeomen warders, otherwise known as beefeaters. All of the attractions at the Tower of London get busy, so it is worth getting there for opening time if possible, to try to view some parts ahead of the crowds. Most children will want to visit the Jewel House to see the crown jewels, and do make time to visit the White Tower, where you will find the hands-on history area on the fourth floor. Avoid the Wakefield Tower, as this presents the more unpleasant sides of the history of the Tower and is not suitable for young children. Some areas of the Tower of London are not accessible with a pushchair, so you may find it easier to take your baby or toddler in a baby-carrier or expect to have to carry toddlers around some areas once they get tired.
A family trail is available from the welcome centre, to help you get the most from your visit. Meals and other refreshments are served inside the Tower at the New Armouries restaurant, or outside the Tower at the Wharf you can choose from two cafes - the Tower Wharf Cafe or Paul. There isn't a specific picnic area, but you are welcome to picnic on one of the benches or in the Moat area.
