Description:
This remarkable art collection includes paintings, furniture and artefacts from ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt.  Formerly privately owned by Sir William Burrell, a very successful shipping agent in Glasgown, the collection was generously given to the city by him and his wife in 1944.  It is now housed in a purpose-built museum located within the Pollok Country Park.  There are over 8000 items in the collection, and around 3000 are on display at any one time.  The museum has good facilities for children, and there are many outdoor activities to enjoy in the country park for those little ones too young to take in much of the art.
