Description:
The Nene Valley Railway runs for 7½ miles through pretty countryside from Wansford, where its headquarters are based, through to Peterborough.  Most of the trains operated are steam, with some diesel, all stopping at Ferry Meadows and Orton Mere stations, which provide access to the Ferry Meadows Country Park (see separate listing for details).  From the station at Peterborough it takes approx. 10 minutes to walk into the city centre - or catch a train onwards from Peterborough's mainline station which is almost adjacent to the Nene Valley Railway station.  Trains also run to Yarwell Junction, where a new station building was opened in 2008. There are plans to develop a picnic area and station garden here. Most trains have a carriage adapted to offer disabled & pushchair access.  Drinks, sandwiches etc are available in the cafe at Wansford station, where you will also find a model railway, gift shop and children's play area (for under-8s).   There is also a picnic area at Wansford Station.

The operating dates are complex:
4th April - 31st October: Saturday & Sunday
13th May - 2nd September: Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday  & through August also on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays
