This beautiful house stands in gardens and
parkland with tremendous views towards the south coast. Inside there
are some lovely ceramics, and children will be fascinated by the
astonishingly detailed eighteenth-century dolls house. Another
interesting feature is the basement, housing the servants quarters, and
presented in Victorian style. Uppark is possibly best known now for
its restoration following the disastrous fire of 1989. Fortunately,
many of the paintings and ceramics and much of the furniture was rescued
from the flames, and a remarkable restoration programme brought the house
back to its former glory ready for re-opening in 1995. There is a very
interesting exhibition detailing how the house was restored. |
