New Lanark makes a great day out for all
the family - with history really brought to life in the various parts of the
centre. The village was based around a cotton mill, which was operated
on extraordinarily enlightened principles for its time - led by the
remarkable social reformer Robert Owen. The buildings have been
restored to offer insights into how people worked and lived in the
19th and early 20th centuries - and those who lived here were far more
fortunate than most people of their time. Such is its historical
significance, the centre has been designated a World Heritage Site.
There are plenty of interactive exhibits for little ones to enjoy, and facilities for families are good. |
