This excellent museum is well worth a visit, and allow several hours if you want to see everything - we think most children would happily spend a whole day here, as there's so much to see and do. Exhibitions include Newcastle's Story - the history of the city from Roman times to today; the Story of the Tyne - its shipping and ecology; and Fashion Works - the history of fashion and textiles. Little ones will love the Science Maze with its interactive features - and it also includes a soft-play area for toddlers and young children. The Play Tyne is a "must-do" for the under-7s - but be warned, you might not easily get them away from the fun of playing with the boats, cranes, bridges etc in the water on the model Tyne!! Aprons are available to help keep your little ones dry, and there are plenty of hand-dryers to help them dry out if the aprons don't cope with all the splashes! The museum caters very well for families, with lifts to all floors, and baby-changing facilities on all floors and accessible to both mums and dads.
