Description:

Hever Castle & Gardens make a lovely day out for families - with plenty to keep everyone amused.  The castle itself really makes history accessible for children - with costumed figures of Henry VIII and his wives, and other historical characters of the time.  It is also unusual in being such a "homely" castle, having been restored by the Waldorf Astor family early last century.  If you just can't get enough of stately homes, visit the model houses exhibition to see some beautiful miniature houses set in various periods through history.  Take time to explore the wonderful gardens, and don't miss the mazes - children will particularly enjoy the water maze - but do be prepared to get wet!!  (Very young ones will need to be carried around this one, but they can toddle about safely in the yew maze). There is also a large adventure playground - so there really is plenty for children to do.  Visit either of the restaurants for an excellent range of food - lunches, snacks and cream teas are all available.

Other facilities:
  • No specific picnic area, but visitors are welcome to picnic in the grounds.
Other notes:
  • The gardens, restaurants and model house exhibition are all pushchair-friendly, but you will need to carry your infant around the house, or use a baby-carrier.
  • There is no baby-changing facility within the Moat Restaurant - but it is only a short walk to other toilet facilities where you will find two parent & baby rooms.
