Description:
Hampton Court Palace makes a great day out for all the family - there's something here to keep all ages amused.  Built in the early 16th century, Hampton Court soon became a royal residence when Henry VIII made it his own in 1528.  Although very much associated with this monarch, the palace has also been home to many royals - and even Oliver Cromwell.  In 1689 William III commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to make some major changes to the palace.  The palace was first opened to the public by Queen Victoria, and it has been a very popular visitor attraction ever since.
There is a huge amount to see at the palace, from Henry VIII's state apartments, and the King's Apartments (built for William III) to the Georgian Rooms and the Tudor Kitchens.  It's also worth taking time to explore the grounds - and don't forget to visit the famous maze.  In summer you can visit the Royal Tennis Courts where real tennis is played.  Children who need a rest can visit the Family Room, which has a soft play area.

Lunches, cakes and other refreshments are served at the Tiltyard Cafe - or for sandwiches and pastries visit the Privy Kitchen coffee shop.
