Family-friendly Places in Cumbria
A very popular place with visitors from all over the world, Cumbria, or the Lake District is a wonderfully scenic part of the UK. The lakes are beautiful, and the surrounding villages and market towns are a delight. Windermere, at 12 miles long, is the largest lake in England. Coniston Water is a must-see for older children who are fans of the Arthur Ransome Swallows and Amazons books. Ullswater is worth a visit for its shere beauty, and for having inspired Wordsworth There's lots for families to do here - take a boat trip, visit the Beatrix Potter Museum, or simply get out walking. Having young children needn't stop you from enjoying the countryside on foot -infants and toddlers love the high-level view from a baby carrier. Grasmere is an ideal lake to visit with young children as the surrounding area has some gentle walks which even little ones can manage. In wet weather visit one of the excellent indoor attractions, such as the Rheged Centre at Penrith.
