Threave makes a great family day out - there is lots of space for little ones to run around and let off steam in the vast gardens, which are a real delight for the keen gardener.  The walled kitchen garden is particularly impressive. The house is well-worth a visit if you have time for the guided tour - our little assessor enjoyed it as he was given the task of spotting certain objects in each room.  The tour guide was also very patient, which helps!  Lunches and other refreshments are available at the cafe.
