Run by Kew Gardens for the National Trust, Wakehurst
Place offers year-round interest in its beautiful gardens, with guided walks
available. The Millennium Seed Bank houses a vast collection of seeds,
with the aim of preserving plant species which might otherwise be lost in
years to come. Part of the downstairs of the house can be visited, but
now houses exhibitions rather than original furniture. There is also a
gift shop in the mansion house. Enjoy a hot meal in the Stables
Restaurant, or visit the excellent Seed
Cafe in the visitor centre, where you will find a selection of light
meals, cakes and drinks, many of which are organic or fair-trade products. |
